The AI-powered design platform Picsart is making waves by launching its new AI agent marketplace. This innovative feature enables creators to 'hire' AI assistants to assist with various tasks, such as resizing social media content, remixing images, and editing product photos for platforms like Shopify.
With a user base exceeding 130 million, predominantly comprising Gen Z, Picsart has positioned itself as a more sophisticated alternative to tools like Canva, specifically tailored for social media managers and content creators. The company achieved unicorn status during the creator economy boom in 2021 and has maintained its relevance by continuously enhancing its AI-driven products to cater to the evolving market demands.
The timing of this marketplace launch is particularly strategic, as recent viral projects such as OpenClaw have sparked increased interest in agentic AI chatbots that function similarly to personal assistants. Hovhannes Avoyan, the founder and CEO of Picsart, emphasized the transformative nature of these AI agents, stating, "Creators have been stuck as the operator of every workflow — the one doing, not deciding. Our Agents change that relationship — you set direction, the agent builds a plan using real data, you approve, it executes."
Initially, users can access four distinct agents: Flair, Resize Pro, Remix, and Swap, with plans to introduce additional specialized agents weekly. The Flair agent stands out as the most advanced, designed to integrate seamlessly with Shopify. It analyzes market trends and offers suggestions for enhancing online stores, including recommendations to improve product photo aesthetics. Future updates are expected to empower Flair with capabilities to run A/B tests and identify underperforming products, providing proactive insights to boost sales.
The Resize Pro agent specializes in adjusting images and videos to meet the recommended dimensions for various platforms. Utilizing AI, it can generatively extend frames when original media does not fit the required size, ensuring that resized images maintain a cohesive and intentional appearance.
The Remix agent allows creators to specify a theme, such as "vintage film" or "cyberpunk," and subsequently edits an existing photo library to align with that style. Additionally, it offers features to change backgrounds in photos en masse.
For agents like Flair, which operate asynchronously to analyze data, having the ability to communicate through popular messaging apps like WhatsApp or Telegram is highly beneficial. This integration enables users to interact with the AI agents in a flexible manner, whether at their desks or while on the go. Avoyan noted, "As agents extend to messaging apps creators already use, that conversation happens anywhere — at your desk or from the subway."
While the potential of AI agents is promising, there are inherent risks, particularly with large language model (LLM)-based software, which can sometimes produce unintended outcomes. To mitigate these risks, Picsart offers users the ability to set "autonomy levels" for agents like Flair, allowing them to require creator approval before any actions are taken. This feature aims to reduce the vulnerability of agents to prompt injection attacks, provided that Picsart refrains from deploying agents that engage directly with customers or the broader internet.
Similar to many AI tools, Picsart provides a free plan that includes limited AI credits each week. However, users seeking greater capacity will need to opt for premium subscriptions, which start at approximately $10 per month when billed annually. As a result, utilizing an AI agent will likely necessitate a paid plan.
