After a decade off the air, Fox is re-introducing Don’t Forget the Lyrics to its fall lineup this year.
The game show first ran on the network from 2007 to 2011. In the show, contests must complete song lyrics for increasing amounts of money. The ultimate prize for contestants to win on the new series is $1 million.
Contestants will be able to choose songs from different genres, decades, and musical artists. Then they’ll sing alongside a studio band with lyrics projected on screen until the music ends and words disappear and contestants have to keep going on their own.
Emmy Award nominee Niecy Nash will host the new series, which will premiere during the 2021-22 TV season for Fox. She’s acted in the HBO comedy Getting On, the Netflix miniseries When They See Us, and recently guest-hosted Fox’s The Masked Singer.
The new rendition of Don’t Forget the Lyrics will also stream on Tubi, Fox Entertainment’s free streaming platform.
The series was created by Jeff Apploff. After the initial show on Fox launched in 2007, international versions were developed in more than 20 countries such as France, India, Taiwan, and Croatia.
“Whether it’s tapping a toe to keep rhythm, humming a melody, or outright singing along, music is one thing that is universally appealing. Don’t Forget the Lyrics! wraps everything about why people love, enjoy, and treasure music into one big, fun, high-energy, and high-stakes show,” Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials for Fox Entertainment said in a statement.
The series is produced by Apploff Entertainment and Bunim/Murray Productions. Apploff, Rupert Dobson, and Niecy Nash are executive producers on the project.
