iOS 26.5 beta arrives with no Gemini-powered AI features as focus shifts to iOS 27

Apple has officially rolled out the iOS 26.5 beta 1, but it arrives without the much-anticipated Gemini-powered AI features for Siri and Apple Intelligence. As Apple seemingly turns its attention to the forthcoming iOS 27, the lack of these features in the current beta suggests that users will have to wait longer for the next generation of AI enhancements.

No New Siri and AI Features in iOS 26.5

Despite the timely release of iOS 26.5 beta 1, users should not expect to see the upgraded AI functionalities that were initially anticipated. Apple had previously announced plans for Apple Intelligence in June 2024, incorporating several features throughout the updates of iOS 18.1 to 18.4. However, the more advanced Personal Intelligence features were notably absent from the iOS 18 release cycle.

Transitioning from iOS 18 to iOS 26, Apple has shifted its versioning system to reflect the year ahead, suggesting that the next significant updates may come with iOS 27. Given the current trajectory, it appears that iOS 27 will mark the debut of Siri and Apple Intelligence features powered by the Gemini AI framework.

As it stands, the iOS 26.5 beta 1 includes no new enhancements for Siri and Apple Intelligence. While there is always the possibility of surprises in future beta releases, the prevailing indications suggest that Apple is reserving its major developments for iOS 27.

The initial beta for iOS 27 is expected to be unveiled in just over two months, with its final version scheduled for a launch in September. Should Apple deem its Gemini-powered features sufficiently refined before the iOS 27.0 release, it remains conceivable that some updates could be introduced to iOS 26 in the meantime. However, there seems to be a concerted effort to allow more time for development, indicating that the full suite of AI capabilities will likely be integrated with iOS 27.

Upgraded Siri and Apple Intelligence Expected This Year

Last year, Apple announced a delay in the rollout of a more personalized version of Siri, a decision made public on March 7, 2025. The company communicated its commitment to enhancing Siri's conversational abilities, introducing features such as type-to-Siri, product knowledge, and integration with ChatGPT. Apple emphasized that the development of a more personalized Siri, equipped with greater context awareness and action capabilities across apps, would require additional time. The expectation was set for these features to be available within the coming year.

On January 12, 2026, Apple and Google confirmed that they would collaborate on a Gemini-powered upgrade for Siri and Apple Intelligence. The partnership aims to leverage Google's Gemini models and cloud technology to boost the next generation of Apple Foundation Models. This collaboration is anticipated to significantly enhance the user experience with Siri, maintaining Apple's commitment to privacy while integrating advanced AI functionalities.

Prior to the release of iOS 26.4, reports suggested that Apple initially planned to include Gemini-powered enhancements in that update. However, as developments unfolded, it became clear that these features would be spread out over future versions, with iOS 26.5 and iOS 27 being the primary targets for their introduction.

Notably, industry analyst Mark Gurman indicated that Personal Intelligence features might not be included until iOS 27, further solidifying the notion that any advancements related to Gemini may not align with the iOS 26 timeline.

This month’s iOS 26.4 release could potentially serve as the last major update before Apple transitions its focus to iOS 27, with the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled to commence on June 8, 2026, at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
